Jan 26, 2011: YMCA of Florida’s First Coast CEO Headed to YMCA of Greater Houston, Second Largest YMCA in U.S.

The Metropolitan Board of Directors of the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast announced today that Paul McEntire will be leaving the organization effective April 6, 2011. McEntire will become Chief Operating Officer of the YMCA of Greater Houston, the second largest YMCA association in the United States.

McEntire joined the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast in 1999 and was named CEO in January 2008 after serving as interim CEO for five months. He has fifteen years of YMCA experience in a career that began after a dozen years as a pastor of two churches in the Chicago suburbs.

“We knew Paul was extremely talented,” said G. John Carey, Chairman of the Metropolitan Board of Directors. “We hoped he would be with us for many years to come, but we understand the tremendous opportunity with the Houston YMCA. Our Board of Directors, Trustees, staff and volunteers wish him and his family well as he embraces a new challenge. We will miss his leadership, character and strong work ethic”.

Today, the YMCA has 13 family branches and two corporate health facilities, more than 40 before and afterschool child care sites, a resident camp, two facilities for the permanently and profoundly disabled, a full-service preschool, several outreach centers, and a charter elementary school – all available to everyone, regardless of ability to pay.

“I’m proud that even in tough times, our team accomplished revenue, donation and membership growth, expanded locations and youth programs and developed many volunteer opportunities to make the community a better place to live,” said McEntire. “The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast remains strong with deep roots in the community, generous supporters and a highly dedicated staff to continue to nurture the potential of every child and teen, improve our community’s well-being and provide opportunities to support neighbors.
